​Carlos Manuel, known as “El Zafiro,” is a distinguished Dominican merengue artist who gained prominence in the 1980s and 1990s with hits like “Dominicano Ausente” and “El Cantante del Amor.” Born and raised in the San Carlos neighborhood of Santo Domingo, he was discovered by Bonny Cepeda in 1975, leading to a successful career that included forming his own orchestra and earning accolades such as the “Estrella por Siempre” award. After overcoming personal challenges, El Zafiro relaunched his career, releasing new music like the bachata “Hay Amor” and continues to be celebrated for his contributions to Dominican music.
